An absolutely fabulous pair of carved tortoise shell earrings from the Victorian (ca1880) era! Now a banned material, antique tortoise shell jewelry has become very collectible. These striking earrings, which are relatively large in size, each feature two interlocking, open-circle links which are riveted to a larger plaque and hang from a simple clasped earring wire at the top. Each hand-carved plaque adorns a?matching?scalloped design to create a unique and bold perimeter, and two delicate beads rest at the center, seamlessly hiding?the riveted design.?The tortoise shell displays a rich, deep brown color, highlighted with chestnut brown and amber hues that come alive when the earrings dangle in the light. A carved, round link rests at the top, attached to modern 14kt yellow gold wires, allowing the earrings to swing with lovely movement. Despite their substantial size, the earrings are very lightweight and comfortable to wear. They look fantastic?when worn and would make a special?addition to any jewelry collection!
Measurements: The earrings hang 2 5/8" long, and measure approximately 1" wide, and about 3/8" thick.
Condition: The overall condition of the earrings is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the carved tortoise shell design. The gold earring wires are intact and in good condition.
